Yes Udta Punjab is getting screened finally. And no, the name is not getting changed!
The Central Board of Film Certification passed Udta Punjab with an ‘A’ certificate on Sunday. Pahlaj Nihalini, the CBFC chief, also added that the reports of CBFC asking to change the name of the Alia Bhatt starred film were incorrect.
Udta Punjab is a film based on the increasing drug addiction among the youth of Punjab and stars Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor, and Diljit Dosanjh in the leading roles. The movie has been into headlines and making controversies since it was alleged that the CBFC suggested 89 cuts in the film. Many known celebrities from the industry expressed their discord over the board and even demanded the removal of Pahlaj Nihalini from the position of the CBFC chief. There were also reports that claimed CBFC demanding the removal of the word ‘Punjab’ from the title of the movie, which created a lot of fume in the media. However, such reports have been declared false by the CBFC.
On Sunday, the board finally cleared the much awaited movie for screening after levying 40 cuts in the film. The Bombay High Court’s verdict is awaited on Monday.
